The sisters are twisted. Extraordinary. But utterly wonderful.
Their music is adorable for some, unbearable for others. These two "rainbowarriors", mischievous children in their 20s keep playing their games, intrepidly experimenting and looking for new ways to get into trouble.
The duo CocoRosie is Sierra (Rosie) and Bianca (Coco) Casady, two of the numerous children of American artist Christina Chalmers, a free-thinker and nomad. Strange as it may seem, the two girls who are roughly of the same age didn't share a closeness growing up. They parted in early adolescence and for 10 years lived completely different lives giving each other a "silent treatment". Sierra was studying opera in Paris, Bianca designing lingerie and teaching poetry in New York. Their lives were drastically changed in the spring of 2003 when they met in Paris and fell for each other. The beginning of this creative, inspiring relationship was documented in their sonic diary - several songs they recorded in the bathroom of Sierra's apartment. Cloistered themselves in that unlikely recording studio, the new collaborators were drinking champagne and amazing each other by unbridled improvisations. In the end those eccentric, though enchanting songs full of broken beats, bizarre sound effects, and aching melodies became their debut album, La maison de mon rve. The album was released in 2004 on the indie label "Touch & Go" and greeted with largely positive reviews. Critics put CocoRosie in the vague category of "freak-folk", together with Devendra Banhart, Joanna Newsom, and Antony and the Johnsons. The girls themselves prefer to name their music "pop" as it is eclectic and draws upon many genres.
So far CocoRosie have recorded three studio albums. Their second, Noah's Ark, sporting Bianca's picture of unicorns' orgy on its cover, was tracked in fragments on tour in 2005. Despite the fact that it is their most social and outworld-oriented record (featuring cameos by Devendra and Antony), it's also their gloomiest.
The last CocoRosie album, electronically lush and arcane The Adventures of Ghosthorse and Stillborn, was written and recorded again in seclusion - on an old farm in the south of France, where the pair spent six weeks in near isolation. The production work of the album was made by Icelandic producer Valgeir Sigurdsson, best known for his collaboration with Bjork. The album's cover artwork was made by the renowned gay French photographers Pierre and Gilles. And, as usual, all lyrics were written by Bianca whom Sierra considers "an incredible writer".
Two CocoRosie concerts of the last couple of years were milestones in their career: in 2007, on the invitation of David Byrne, CocoRosie performed at Carnegie Hall, and in April 2008 they performed together with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam.

Note: the quality of the first and second albums is rather poor, so there is little difference between mp3 and flac versions.
The sound of the song "Noah's Ark" is particularly strange. I've heard three rips of the track, and all of them sounded that bad (only the video sounds a little more decent, but still is hugely lopsided), so it seems like the one-channel disbalance was made on purpose.
